In other news, I'm not going anywhere exciting this weekend. I'll be in London for the day on Friday for a school trip and then that's it. I've got two papers that I have not been able to teach to write themselves so I've got to get writing. One is on Philip Larkin... post-war poet and the other on King Lear and how it has been performed throughout the centuries.. I've got my work cut out for me. So the library now has no books in it as they are all on my desk, and I'm reading away.. reading reading reading.. to be followed by writing writing writing.. still next weekend will more then make up for it. I'm going to Amsterdam! But I've got to get this work done first!
PS... saw a production of MacBeth in Nottingham last night. I didn't hate it but the script was WAY cut down.. Lady MacBeth was HORRID, all jazz hands, evil looks, and hyper ventalating (really Lady M as pure evil SOOO original!!!! GRRRR) also the poor witches were running around playing every servant/child in the play and I felt they never really had time to settle and commit to being witches... but MacBeth was good... really raw and natural... and his physical connection with Lady M was good.. when she wasn't hyper ventalating that is. So in conclusion MacBeth good, wanted to shoot lady M at interval and take over myself!, and don't cut out huge sections because it gives the characters no time to develop! In my humble opinion that is

Thanks for the detailed observations. You can often learn a lot by watching a BAD performance. IT's sometimes hard to analyze a good preformer - they're so good an natural they make it look easy, so it can be hard to put your finger on why they are so good, but someone acting poorly often highlights what NOT to do!
Good luck on your papers. (and if you ever do figure out how to get them to write themselves, you'll make a mint!) Have a blast in London and Amsterdam.
It's a pity you can't do a second semester abroad! You're getting so much out of this one.
